Scenarios where you may need a lock or key repair is when the key through wear and tear is unable to lock, open or start your vehicle. Keys work on a space and depth system and when the depths have become warn, the key has trouble lining up with the lock or ignition lock and that’s why the lock will not open, close or start. We get called out a lot for snapped keys broken in the lock or ignition lock, this is more prevalent in the winter months as temperatures get lower and the keys and fobs are more susceptible to breaking.
The locks and ignition locks are also vulnerable to wear and tear, car locks and ignition locks are made up of tiny little wafers ( discs ) and most cars have 6-10 wafers per lock and ignition lock, it only takes one of these little wafers to become worn and the depth on the key will no longer meet the wafer in the lock or ignition lock to open, close or start the car.
Remote fobs become damaged after time also, if they are dropped, they can become damaged, the key blade may come away leaving you with two separate parts to the key or the transponder chip may become damaged leaving you unable to start your car.
Can you repair a lock, key or remote fob?
Simple Answer, YES. Here at AutoKeys R Us we have mobile vans with high quality key cutting, cloning and transponder coding machines like in the above images that will sort any key or remote fob problem. If it is a case that you have snapped the key blade then we can cut you a new one and use the existing transponder chip. If the remote fob is damaged then again we can replace that for you too.
If it is a lock or ignition lock problem, then we have methods to remove them without any damage what so ever and relace the necessary parts, once we are done you won’t even know that they were touched.
It maybe that you just need a spare key, whatever the reason, we can come to you in our mobile van and sort the problem.
